Frequently Asked Questions

5 questions
Nanite is a virtualized geometry system that replaces traditional LOD (Level of Detail) chains. It works by breaking meshes into 128-triangle clusters and using a software rasterizer to render only the micro-triangles visible at a given pixel resolution, significantly reducing CPU-side draw calls and GPU-side sub-pixel triangle waste. However, it does NOT make optimization obsolete — Nanite does not solve issues like overdraw or excessive material complexity. Traditional meshes with manually authored LODs may still outperform Nanite for low-detail background objects or mobile targets.
