Fandango at HomevsKanopy

Fandango at Home (formerly known as Vudu) is a premium digital video-on-demand service that specializes in movie rentals and purchases. Instead of offering a flat-rate monthly subscription, it operates as a massive digital storefront where you only pay for exactly what you want to watch. It is widely praised by home theater enthusiasts for offering some of the highest streaming bitrates available, supporting up to 4K UHD resolution, HDR10, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos audio. Beyond its transactional store, Fandango at Home also features a robust "Free, With Ads" section containing thousands of movies and TV episodes available at no cost. The platform is incredibly feature-rich, offering parental controls, personalized wishlists, and seamless integration with Movies Anywhere—a service that syncs your purchased digital library across competing platforms like Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video into one centralized collection. **Pricing:** Fandango at Home does not require a monthly subscription fee. Users can rent new releases (typically $3.99 - $19.99) or purchase them digitally (typically $9.99 - $24.99). Additionally, it offers a large, rotating catalog of ad-supported movies and television shows that are completely free to stream.

Kanopy is a unique, premium streaming platform that partners with public libraries and universities to bring ad-free, high-quality cinema to viewers at absolutely no cost. It is widely considered the ultimate streaming destination for cinephiles, offering an unparalleled collection of critically acclaimed independent films, thought-provoking documentaries, classic foreign cinema, and educational programming. It focuses heavily on "thoughtful entertainment." To access the platform, users simply need to log in using an active, supported public library card or university login credential. Once authenticated, viewers gain access to a pristine, ad-free viewing environment. The catalog includes incredible selections from distributors like The Criterion Collection, A24, and PBS. Kanopy also offers "Kanopy Kids," a dedicated section featuring high-quality, educational programming curated specifically for younger audiences. **Pricing:** Kanopy is completely free for users, with absolutely no advertisements or subscription fees. The service is subsidized by participating public libraries and universities, who pay for the content on a pay-per-view basis. Users are typically granted a specific number of viewing "tickets" or credits per month by their library.
