EvernotevsRoam Research

Evernote is one of the oldest and most recognizable note-taking and personal organization applications on the market. Often described as a "second brain," it allows users to capture ideas, meeting notes, voice memos, and images in one centralized, highly searchable platform. Its organizational structure relies on a robust system of Notebooks and hierarchical tags, enabling users to meticulously categorize their digital lives, from complex professional projects to personal grocery lists and travel itineraries. The software’s most powerful feature is arguably its Web Clipper. Unlike basic bookmarking tools, the Evernote Web Clipper allows users to save entire web pages—including text, images, and formatting—directly into a specific notebook with a single click. Furthermore, Evernote features Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, which automatically makes the text inside scanned PDFs, whiteboards, and even handwritten sticky notes fully searchable within the app. **Pricing:** Evernote's Free plan allows syncing across 2 devices with a 60MB monthly upload limit. The Personal plan costs $14.99/month, offering unlimited device sync, a 10GB monthly upload limit, and offline access. The Professional plan, designed for advanced integrations and larger file sizes, is priced at $17.99/month.

The platform popularized bidirectional linking and graph-based note organization for researchers writers and knowledge workers.
