CrawlRavenvsScreaming Frog SEO Spider

Pros

Cons

Pros

• The extracted markdown can be exported with YAML frontmatter (containing title, author, etc.) and subsequently processed with a Python script to create individual .md files .
• The tool can be used at scale to generate clean markdown from web pages, a task valuable for feeding content into AI pipelines and RAG systems .
• It offers two methods for markdown extraction: a simple method using Mozilla's Readability.js and Turndown that works across most sites with no configuration, and a more controlled method using Visual Custom Extraction .

Cons

• Using the Custom JavaScript feature requires enabling JavaScript rendering during the crawl, which is significantly slower than standard crawling .
• The Readability.js method may fail to extract content from pages with unusual layouts (e.g., heavy sidebars, certain SPAs), requiring the more complex fallback method .
