Apache Guacamole addresses browser-based remote desktop access. Browser-based remote desktop access is Guacamole's practical advantage. It can expose RDP, VNC and SSH sessions without installing a dedicated client on every workstation. Authentication, gateway hardening and session performance remain the operator's responsibility. A browser front end does not secure the underlying remote host by itself.
Checkmk addresses IT infrastructure monitoring. Checkmk's discovery and monitoring rules help teams cover many infrastructure services without hand-building every check. It is especially attractive in mixed on-premise estates. The rule hierarchy takes time to master. Administrators need discipline to prevent overlapping settings from becoming difficult to debug.
